Frequently Asked Questions
How do we reserve?
You can contact us by telephone or email. Once you have decided, I will
hold the reservation for a few days until your deposit arrives. The
deposit is 25% of the full price. The balance and the damage deposit are
due thirty days before you arrive.
How
is payment made?
Personal cheque or bank draft is fine. We are trying to avoid credit
cards because it adds to the overhead.
What is the cancellation policy?
If you cancel after you have paid your deposit, but before the balance
is due, we will refund your deposit, minus a $100 cancellation fee. If
you cancel within the thirty days prior to the intended start of the
vacation, we cannot refund the money as it is unlikely that we can
rebook at the last minute.
When is check-in?
Our bookings go from Saturday to Saturday. You can check in any time
after 3 pm.
How
do we get the key?
When we receive the final payment, we will contact you so you know it
has arrived, and will let you know then where the key will be, as well
as other details such as what your phone number at the cottage will be.
When is check-out time?
Please check out by 11 am on the final Saturday of your stay. This
allows us four busy hours to make sure we are ready for the next guests.
There is no need for you to launder the sheets or towels. We bring an
alternate set. But please do the dishes and leave the house clean and
neat.
What about the damage deposit?
Most guests are conscientious and treat our houses well, and as we say,
we try to make them kid-friendly so that you don’t have to constantly be
afraid that the children will destroy something valuable. That doesn’t
mean though that we want to see careless destruction and dirt. The most
common problem that we have encountered is kids and dogs ripping the
screens out of the doors. As long as there is no damage, we will mail
back your damage deposit in full the Wednesday after you leave. If there
is damage, we will take the cost of repair or replacement out of the
deposit and mail back the balance, if any.
Is
there a coffee-maker and tea kettle? Toaster? Dish towels and
dishcloths?
Yes. We supply the coffee filters.
What do we need to bring?
Your personal items, such as shampoo, soap, etc. Toilet paper (one-ply –
we are on septic systems) and paper towels. Dish soap. We start you off
with a garbage bag, but you need to supply them after the first is full.
A word to the wise: Picton has excellent grocery stores, and there are
wonderful roadside stands everywhere in the County. Each house has a
normal-sized fridge, but a week’s worth of groceries for ten or more
people may strain its capacity. It may be more convenient for you to
bring some food for the first day or so, and then buy locally for the
rest of the week. You should also bring beach towels .Dishtowels are
provided but you need to bring your own towels and facecloths.
What do we do about garbage?
Just bag it up and put the recycle in the blue box and George will take
it away for you. That way, you don’t have to purchase bag tags.
Do
you have cable?
No, our televisions are on antennae.
Smoking Permitted? Outside Only.
